Naturalized foreigners

You can apply for citizenship after 8 years of legal residence in the country, provided you have learned the language, no criminal record, no debts, no threats to national security.

Spouses of citizens

For spouses of Slovaks, the period of residence from 8 years is reduced to 5, but the other conditions of naturalization must be met.

Persons of Slovak origin

Without residence in the country, direct descendants of up to 3 generations of former citizens of Slovakia, the Czech Republic or the former Czechoslovakia may apply for citizenship.

Persons who have made a significant contribution to the development of Slovakia

Citizenship may be granted to foreigners by decision of the President of Slovakia who have made a significant contribution to the development of Slovakia through their scientific, cultural, economic or other merits.

How to obtain Slovak citizenship

The process of applying for citizenship in Slovakia consists of a number of consecutive steps, each of which requires accuracy and compliance with formal requirements. Specialists provide full support at all stages: from initial assessment to obtaining a passport.

Step №1

Personalized analysis of the situation and legal expertise

At the first stage of interaction, a comprehensive assessment of the client’s situation is carried out. Specialists determine the legal grounds for obtaining citizenship (naturalization, origin, marriage, repatriation), thoroughly check the submitted documents for compliance with the legislation, assess possible legal risks and formulate an individual action plan.

Step №2

Preparation of documents

The standard dossier includes an application form, CV, up-to-date identity card, birth certificate, data on marital status. The rest of the documents vary depending on the conditions imposed on the candidate. All certificates issued by foreign authorities must be translated into Slovak and legalized or apostilled. Specialists perform most of the document collection tasks themselves and carefully check the final version for compliance with the requirements.

Step №3

Submission of the application

The application is submitted by the lawyer to the Ministry of Internal Affairs at the applicant’s place of residence. If necessary, an interview and a Slovak language test may be scheduled. As a result, an opinion is prepared, which is attached to the case file and taken into account when making the final decision.

Step №4

Ceremony of conferring citizenship

The citizenship case may be processed for up to 12 months. The final decision to grant citizenship is made and signed by the President, resulting in the issuance of a decree. Information is sent to the local authority that accepted the citizenship application, with a specific date for the oath of citizenship. Within 6 months, the applicant must go through the procedure in accordance with the established order and receive a certificate of citizenship.

Step №5

Issuance of citizen's documents

Two types of passports are issued in the country – a domestic passport in the form of an ID card and a foreign passport in a book format. Both documents can be issued at the police station in the place of residence or at the consulate if the applicant is abroad. A certificate of Slovak citizenship must be shown when submitting the request. If necessary, the new citizen can register in the tax and social system.

With citizenship you get full access to all the opportunities offered by the European Union: freedom to choose any place to live, study and work in the EU countries without unnecessary restrictions and bureaucracy. You will be able to use the state health care system and social programs. Opening bank accounts and applying for mortgages becomes easier and more profitable, and participating in European elections gives you the right to influence important decisions at the level of the whole association.

Why professional assistance in obtaining Slovak citizenship is important

Accurate assessment of chances and grounds

A lawyer will help you determine on what legal grounds you can apply for citizenship, avoiding unsuitable or obviously unpromising paths.

Correct preparation of documents

Professional assistance reduces the risk of rejection due to errors, inaccuracies or inconsistencies in the documents.

Navigating the complexities of the law

Citizenship laws can change, have exceptions and nuances - a lawyer provides up-to-date and competent support at every stage.

Minimizing the risks of refusal

Possible reasons for refusal are identified in advance and ways to eliminate them are worked out before the application is submitted.

Saving time and resources

Legal support speeds up the process and eliminates the need to deal with bureaucratic procedures on your own.
